laboratorio<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; El professor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/neuroscience\/faculty\/primary-faculty\/jonathan-kipnis-ph-d\/\">Jonathan Kipnis, Director del Centro de Inmunolog\u00eda del cerebro y c\u00e9lulas gliales de la Facultad de Medicina en la Universidad de Virginia<\/a>, llev\u00f3 a cabo experimentos sobre el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico a lo cual se refiri\u00f3 diciendo: \u201c En mi laboratorio estamos trabajando para comprender mejor las complejas interacciones entre los sistemas inmunitario y nervioso. Hasta muy recientemente, los cient\u00edficos asumieron que cualquier actividad del sistema inmune dentro o alrededor del sistema nervioso central (CNS) era una caracter\u00edstica de patolog\u00eda. Sin embargo, nuevas l\u00edneas de evidencia refuerzan la noci\u00f3n de que el apoyo inmunol\u00f3gico es realmente necesario para la supervivencia neuronal \u00f3ptima despu\u00e9s de una lesi\u00f3n del Sistema Nervioso Central.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; En sus estudios recientemente demostraron que los ratones que ten\u00edan un sistema inmune debilitado presentaban un deterioro notable en las tareas de aprendizaje, memoria, neurog\u00e9nesis adulta y plasticidad neuronal en comparaci\u00f3n con los ratones cuyo sistema inmune funciona normalmente, ya que mejora la capacidad de aprendizaje y acelera el proceso de neurog\u00e9nesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"que-se-entiende-por-neurogenesis\"><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 se entiende por neurog\u00e9nesis?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Neurog%C3%A9nesis\">Es el proceso por el cual se generan nuevas neuronas a partir de c\u00e9lulas madre y c\u00e9lulas progenitoras.<\/a>&nbsp;La neurog\u00e9nesis est\u00e1 m\u00e1s activa en la etapa prenatal y es la responsable de llenar con neuronas el cerebro que est\u00e1 creciendo. Antiguamente se pensaba que las neuronas s\u00f3lo se desarrollaban durante la etapa prenatal y que ya no se regeneraban, pero estudios m\u00e1s recientes avalan la regeneraci\u00f3n neuronal durante la edad adulta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"comunicacion-cerebro-sistema-inmunologico\">Comunicaci\u00f3n cerebro \u2013 sistema inmunol\u00f3gico<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Los investigadores descubrieron que el cerebro est\u00e1 conectado directamente con el sistema inmunol\u00f3gico por vasos que no se pensaba que existieran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; \u00abRealmente no cre\u00ed que hubiera estructuras en el cuerpo de las que no \u00e9ramos conscientes. Yo cre\u00ed que el cuerpo ya hab\u00eda sido mapeado\u00bb, dijo Jonathan Kipnis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Los vasos fueron detectados gracias a que Antoine Louveau (estudiante postdoctoral del laboratorio de Kipnis) desarrollara un m\u00e9todo para montar las meninges de un rat\u00f3n en una sola diapositiva para que pudieran ser examinadas en su conjunto. Despu\u00e9s de notar marcas tipo vasos en la distribuci\u00f3n de las c\u00e9lulas inmunes en sus diapositivas, \u00e9l hizo la prueba para comprobar \u201cvasos linf\u00e1ticos\u201d y \u00a1all\u00ed estaban! \u00a1Exist\u00eda lo imposible! Tener im\u00e1genes en vivo de estos vasos fue crucial para demostrar su funci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"que-se-entiende-por-meninges\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 se entiende por meninges?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Meninges\">Son las membranas de tejido conectivo que cubren todo el sistema nervioso central.<\/a>&nbsp;Adem\u00e1s de las estructuras \u00f3seas que lo protegen, el sistema nervioso central est\u00e1 rodeado por unas membranas denominadas meninges . Estas membranas sirven como filtros que evitan la entrada de sustancias, micropart\u00edculas perjudiciales, virus y bacterias a la masa encef\u00e1lica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"importancia-del-descubrimiento\">Importancia del descubrimiento.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Pero la verdadera importancia de este descubrimiento se encuentra en las implicaciones para el estudio y tratamiento de enfermedades neurol\u00f3gicas como el autismo, el Alzheimer, la esclerosis m\u00faltiple, etc. Con este descubrimiento se ha entendido que el cerebro es como cualquier otro tejido conectado al sistema inmune perif\u00e9rico a trav\u00e9s de vasos linf\u00e1ticos men\u00edngeos. \u00abCreemos que por cada enfermedad neurol\u00f3gica que tiene un componente inmune a ella, estos vasos pueden jugar un papel importante.\u00bb Dijo Kipnis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; La presencia inesperada de los vasos linf\u00e1ticos en el cerebro plantea un enorme n\u00famero de preguntas que ahora necesitan respuesta, tanto sobre el funcionamiento del cerebro como las enfermedades que afectan al mismo. Por ejemplo, la enfermedad de Alzheimer. \u00abEn la enfermedad de Alzheimer, existen acumulaciones en el cerebro de grandes fragmentos de prote\u00edna\u00bb, dijo Kipnis. \u00abCreemos que son acumuladas en el cerebro porque no est\u00e1n siendo eliminados eficazmente por estos vasos.\u00bb Se\u00f1al\u00f3 que los vasos se ven diferentes con la edad, por lo que el papel que desempe\u00f1an en el envejecimiento es otra v\u00eda que explorar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp; &nbsp; Las personas con padecimientos de \u00edndole neurol\u00f3gico muy pronto podr\u00e1n recibir terapias m\u00e1s espec\u00edficas a sus enfermedades, ya que Kipnis declar\u00f3: \u201cNuestro objetivo es dilucidar los mecanismos celulares y moleculares que subyacen a los efectos beneficiosos de las c\u00e9lulas inmunes en el Sistema Nervioso Central sano y enfermo. En la terap\u00e9utica \u00abde primera l\u00ednea\u00bb, estamos dise\u00f1ando vacunas y el desarrollo de nuevas terapias con un potencial para promover la supervivencia neuronal, mejorar las funciones cognitivas y ralentizar la progresi\u00f3n de las neurodegenerativas, del desarrollo neurol\u00f3gico y los trastornos cognitivos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"las-areas-que-se-estan-estudiando-en-el-laboratorio-de-neuroinmunologia-celular-y-molecular-son\">Las \u00e1reas que se
